What Is Digital Writing?

Imagine if every mark you make on a piece of paper could be remembered. Imagine if those marks could be sent, by the pen that made them, through a computer or a phone and be remade into an e-mail, a phone message or a computer document. This is Digital Writing!

How Does It Work?

Digital paper is covered by tiny dots. When you write on this paper with a digital pen, tiny cameras show the pen which dots you joined up and the pens memory stores this. When you tick the magic box on a page, or put your pen into it's digital ink well, the pen sends this information to be remade into an image containing what was written/drawn. Special programs then decide what to do with this image.
The hidden pattern in the dots you join up and in the Magic box also combine to decide whether your image should stop at your phone as a picture message, pass through your phone to the internet as an e-mail or go into your PC and on to a program for processing.
All you need to do is write and tick!

Some Questions?

Do I need a computer?

No, but if you have one you can do more things with your pen including handwriting recognition and automatic transfer of information to programs like Microsoft Word™. This can be useful to students, secretaries and PA's. In fact anybody who needs to take notes and then transfer them to their PC can benefit immediately.

Do I need a computer to send e-mail?

No, as long as you have a mobile phone that supports a technology called Bluetooth v1.1, has an airtime agreement that gives you access to the Internet (GPRS) and has Picture Messaging activated. With these in place, you can send an e-mail or fax from anyplace you can get a phone signal.

Can I still send e-mail if my phone is not compatible or I don't have a phone?

Yes you can, but you must, in this case, have a computer (written images can be sent easily to Microsoft Outlook™ and Lotus Notes™).

What happens when I run out of ink?

You can buy ink refills from us as well as many on-line stores. The same goes for paper products and books. For more information and pricing please email us here, you'll be surprised how reasonable the costs are.

Do I have to use special paper with my Digital Pen?

Only if you want the pen to remember what you have written or drawn. Otherwise the pen is just like any other ball point pen, albeit just a bit chunkier at the moment.

If my phone is not compatible with Bluetooth, what does this mean?

This means you cannot use the pen for mobile usage - you must always dock your pen in its digital ink well to get the pen strokes back out, and this means you must have a computer.

If I have no GPRS or Internet service on my phone what does this mean?

You are very limited in what you can send through the phone as everything must first come into you phone as a picture message before you can address it and send it on.

I have a Bluetooth laptop. Will this work with my pen?

Bluetooth technology is used by the pen to connect it to a device either for picture messaging or for connecting to the Internet. It is not an alternative to the docking station for the computer applications supplied in the box, so unless you want to use your computer as an expensive phone, it is better to ignore this as far as mobile pen applications are concerned (remember, the docking station can take pen strokes straight through to your computers e-mail anyway).

Do I need a PenMail account to send e-mail?

No, you can either use your computer or send e-mails to your phone as picture messages and then from there to e-mail. However, PenMail also gives access to additional services such as the Sysnet Locator and MixiPix.

I don't have a phone; I use a PDA like a Treo 600, Pocket PC, Orange M1000 or Nokia Communicator as my phone. Will this be ok?

Yes, it is fine as long as your PDA has Bluetooth and a phone connection with a GPRS Internet data account, as mentioned above.

Why do I want Digital Writing?

i. I don't like typing.
ii. I don't like computers, but want to send e-mails and faxes to my friends and family.
iii. I want something smaller than a laptop to carry around with me when I go to meetings with customers, but don't want to re-key every note I take when I get back home or to my office.
iv. I like to annotate my notes with sketches and drawings and hate trying to re-make these using a computer and mouse.
v. I need signatures from my customers on notes and forms. I use e-mail and don't want to pay the high cost of other technologies to get the job done.
vi. I am a human being not a machine. I like to send and receive letters, not impersonal blocks of typing.
